The Planning Board is scheduled to hear an application Tuesday night for a new rental apartment development along East Cherry Street. Here are 5 things to know about the proposal:
-
* 5 stories, 44 units (a mix of one- and two-bedrooms plus studios), according to the most recent iteration of the plan presented at the September Redevelopment Agency meeting. That’s up from an initially proposed 33 units.
-
* 19 ground-floor parking spaces + about 30 dedicated spaces in the Lewis Street parking deck.
-
* The application by R2-N2 Properties, LLC, seeks preliminary major site plan, final site plan approval and a minor subdivision with a bulk ācā variance, for 38-52 E. Cherry St., (Block 318, Lots 18-21 and 1.03). Waldwick-based DMR Construction acquired the lots, along with another downtown property, formerly owned by Dornoch.
-
* City Council “sold” the Police Assistance Center building to the Parking Authority. The building will be razed along with three adjacent buildings, none of which are more than two stories. The only retail space currently occupied is Rahway’s Finest Barber Shop, which is expected to be relocated.
The Planning Board will have its monthly meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers of City Hall.
