To head off a potential lawsuit, the Redevelopment Agency last month removed a property from the redevelopment area for the Renaissance at Rahway project.
Redevelopment Agency Attorney Frank Regan said at last month’s meeting that the move was a compromise to address concerns of the property owner, Michael Jones. Regan said Jones had been concerned that his property potentially still could be subject to eminent domain.
Jones, the owner of the property at 273-275 E. Grand Ave., appeared at a March Planning Board meeting promising to file suit against the developer, agency and the city. In a brief telephone interview last night, Jones said he’s been involved in something else and was unsure whether he would move forward with his earlier threat of a lawsuit.
Removal of the property from the redevelopment area would ultimately need City Council approval, according to Regan, and include some type of release from Jones with conditions that would include agreeing not to litigate.
