City Council awarded a contract (AR-181-20) during its Oct. 13 combined meeting for the demolition of a home at 916 Broad St.
East Hanover-based Caravella Demolition, Inc. was the lowest of three quotes for the demolition work, at $24,600. The work includes “demolition and disposal of the existing structure, and restoration to the disturbed areas.”
The existing structure was deemed “unfit for human habitation, occupancy and/or use” by the health officer and the city’s environmental engineering consultant, T&M Associates, according to the resolution.
The property owner was issued an Order to Repair or Demolish the structure on Feb. 28, received and recorded by the County Clerk on March 13. The owner did not comply with the issued and recorded order as of Aug. 3, according to the resolution.
Evidently, the demolition work already occurred because the lot currently is vacant. Google Street View does provide some images over the years that show a house on the property as recently as 2018.
Property records list Alicja M. and Urszula K. Pikor as the owners, having acquired the lot in 1992 for $92,000. The $97,000 tax assessment generated a property tax bill of about $6,382 for 2020. The single-family home at the corner of West Albert Street was built in 1926 and is approximately 1,044 square feet on a 45×109 lot of about 4,905 square feet, according to property records.
