The governing body approved a resolution (AR-118-24) at its May 13 regular meeting awarding a contract to ENGenuity Infrastructure for engineering services for the city’s way finding signage program. The city “has a need to update the way finding signage throughout the city,” according to the resolution.
UPDATED: City Council adopted another resolution (AR-153-24) at its June meeting, amending the previous resolution to increase the contract by $5,500 for engineering services and modify the change of scope to include “design, permitting, bidding, and construction administration for three digital signboards” in an amount of $21,650, for a total award of $102,150.
The three digital signboards would be at The Paseo, the train station, and the Union County Performing Arts Center, according to the June 3 proposal amendments.
The Red Bank-based firm provided a breakdown of the $75,000 in costs and a timeline of meetings in a proposal submitted in January:
- Design scope meetings – $6,570
- Brand development and design – $47,130 + $17,650 – $64,780
- Bid documents and specifications – $4,470 + $1,000 – $5,470
- Construction administration and inspection – $16,830 + $3,000 – $19,830
The city also “provided additional public parks, city buildings, public facilities, and arts areas that may be included in the final project.” The city requested that ENGenuity include 20 units of Blade Type signs along with an additional 10 kiosk signs for “inclusion in the design and construction pricing.”
Based on general assumptions, 30 signs to be installed would cost another $157,000 in hard costs, which also are broken down in the proposal, which also provided examples of ENGenuity’s previous work with way finding signage for Hoboken and Asbury Park.
The city outlined the following boundaries for the way finding signage overall area, according to the proposal:
- South: Hazelwood Avenue
- East: Routes 1&9
- North: Scott Avenue
- West: Route 27
The city may also include signage within the downtown area with the following boundaries:
- South: East Milton Avenue, including City Hall Plaza, Fire Department, and Post Office.
- West: Broad Street/Campbell Street/Irving Street, including Harley-Davidson
- East: Rahway River
- North: West Grand Avenue
