City Council approves appointments

City Council approved a series of appointments to various boards and agencies last week, including a new commissioner to the Redevelopment Agency.

All of the appointments are unpaid, volunteer posts, with varying lengths of service, appointed by Mayor Raymond Giacobbe, Jr., with consent of the governing body.

Redevelopment Agency — AR-28-19

Dorian Timmons was appointed to an unexpired term that runs through 2021. The seat previously had been occupied by Jorge Casalins.

Timmons finished sixth out of a field of seven candidates in last fall’s election for three seats on the nine-member Board of Education. He also is a former board secretary for the Roselle Board of Education, having resigned in early 2018.

Also reappointed to new four-year terms on the seven-member Redevelopment Agency were Timothy Nash and Brittany Hale. Nash has served on the board for more than a decade while Hale was reappointed to a full four-year term after serving the final three years of an unexpired term.

Planning Board — AR-24-19

Richard Watkins, director of the city’s Division of Building and construction code official, and City Councilman At-large Jeremy Mojica were reappointed to new one-year terms for 2019. Mojica won re-election to another four-year term on the governing body last fall. As city officials, the two are one-year appointments, as Class III member and Class II member, respectively).

Also appointed to terms expiring in 2022 on the Planning Board were: Jeffrey Brooks, Class I Member, as the mayor’s representative, Michael Pakay, Class IV member, and Alexander Shipley, Class IV member, who also serves as township historian. William Cladek was appointed as an alternate #1, to a term expiring in 2020.

Zoning Board of Adjustment — AR-25-19

There were five reappointments to the board, including three three-year terms, expiring in 2022: longtime chairman William Hering, James Heim and Marie Richelieu. Two alternates were reappointed to two-year terms that expire in 2020: William Tomkiewicz, alternate #3, and Roy L. Smith, alternate #4.

Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) – AR-27-19

Christopher A. Kozlowski was appointed to a full three-year term, expiring in 2021, on the three-member board which oversees local liquor licenses. He first was appointed to the board in November 2017 to serve the remaining year-plus of a term originally held by Anne Rowan.
