The governing board adopted two separate resolutions during its regular meeting on Jan. 10. The first (AR-26-22) confirmed Mayor Ray Giacobbe, Jr.’s appointments to the Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Board, Planning Board, Redevelopment Agency, and Zoning Board of Adjustment, among others; the second (AR-27-22) specifically appointed two alternate members to the Environmental Commission and another to the Planning Board.

Alcohol Beverage Control Board

Kimberly Hall of Elm Avenue was reappointed to a three-year term through 2024. The ABC Board, which oversees liquor licenses within the city, is a three-member board that’s one of the few that specifies political party affiliation. Per state law, the board is made up of three members, two of which are held by the party that holds the majority on City Council. In Rahway, all nine seats on City Council (and the mayor’s seat) are held by Democrats.

Hall is a Democratic representative on the board (Edward Rengifo holds the other Democratic seat and Matthew Dobrowolski the Republican seat.

Planning Board

Four members were reappointed to the Planning Board across the two resolutions. City Building Inspector Frank Spallone was reappointed as a Class II member (a city official) to a one-year term. Longtime board members Jeffrey Robinson of Stanton Street and William Hering of New Brunswick Avenue both were reappointed to four-year terms expiring in 2025 as Class IV members.

Councilman At-Large Jeremy Mojica of West Lake Avenue was reappointed as a Class III member (a member of the governing body) to a one-year term (AR-27-22).

Redevelopment Agency

Dorian Timmons of West Grand Avenue was reappointed to another four-year term, expiring in 2026, on the seven-member board that oversees redevelopment.

Zoning Board of Adjustment

Rick Zdan of Seminary Avenue was reappointed to a two-year term expiring in 2023 and James Pellettiere of East Grand Avenue was reappointed to a three-year term expiring in 2025.
