City Council awarded a nearly $2-million contract to build a new interconnection pipeline as part of upgrades to the city’s water treatment plant.
The governing body unanimously approved AR-67-15 at its regular meeting on March 9, accepting the lowest responsible bid of $1.899 million from Hillside-based PM. Construction Corp. Funds for the project were authorized through a nearly $20-million bond ordinance that also was approved at a special meeting on March 3.
The interconnection pipeline was combined with a new membrane filter for the century-old facility on Westfield Avenue, with some $21.1 million in authorized debt for the upgrades. About half of the project costs will be covered by interest-free financing from the New Jersey Environmental Infrastructure Trust.
