A sign in the window of the Irving Street eatery reads:
“Restaurant David Drake has closed. Look for the NEW Restaurant David Drake in the spring in a new location. We would like to thank all of our local customers for all of their support over the years. We look forward to welcoming you back later this year.”
It’s unclear whether that new location will be in Rahway
. I haven’t been able to find out much more since Tweeting about it Thursday but Drake told New Jersey Monthly‘s Table Hopping with Rosie yesterday: “I’m not sure what is going to happen, or not happen. It may reopen in the near future but perhaps as Bistro David Drake. We shall see because I’m totally focusing on doing good things at Alice’s in Lake Hopatcong right now.”

So sad. One of my favorite restaurants ever. I did a review of DD for Chowhound, under a different name, when they first opened. The review got back to Mr. Drake (it was a very good one) and they had it linked to their website for ages. Have had many remarkable lunches and dinners there and was looking forward to taking my boyfriend there for his birthday this February. Alas, not to be. I hope Mr. Drake can get it together and reopen again elsewhere, but suspect this will be the end for this charming and much loved little place. So sorry to see it go.
The owner of the Skyview building (and Silcon) is the same owner of David Drake. I wonder if he's planning on putting the restaurant in the space at the Skyview building.

David Drake is co-owners with Carlos Silva from Silcon, who owns Silcon (and Skyview).
i received a gift certificate from David Drakes for Christmas. I was told by the giver of the gift that they purchased the certificate right before Christmas and the owner never told them that the restaurant was closing! Selling a gift certificate that can only be redeemed that weekend amounts to thievery. At the very least unethical business practices
