El Bodegon undergoing transformation

The former El Bodegon restaurant on West Main Street has been closed for renovations since February with interior renovations going on for months. Tangible evidence of the changes appeared on its exterior this week with crisp, new red awnings, adorned with a script P.
I’ve been told the new place will be more a bar and nightclub than the former restaurant, with a dance floor in the basement area among the renovations. The principals in the new endeavor apparently own a couple of other restaurants in Elizabeth, from what I’ve heard.
(Thanks to reader Bob Markey who noticed the change and snapped the photo above.)

  1. I feel sorry for the neighbors if this is going to be a bar/nightclub. I had the misfortune of living next door to what I considered a not so legal nightclub on Main Street (it had no sign in the front window when I moved into my apartment – was located in the back of the building; I had NO idea it existed). Whenever they used the club I was subjected to overly loud music with pounding bass notes reverberating through the building into mine – until 3am. I couldn't sleep and had to call the police each time to make them turn down the music. It was one of the main reasons I started looking for a home to purchase in town. While this building isn't right on top of the neighboring homes, I can only imagine that it will impact them nonetheless with a similar problem – let a lone the same issue of drunken patrons streaming out in the middle of the night (we even had one place a 1/2 empty beer bottle into our mailbox one night). I guess you can't stop it from happening – but a regular restaurant would have been a more appropriate replacement for the defunct El Bodegon in a town of such a small size as we have. We do not need "nightclubs" here – IMHO, of course. Others opinions I expect to differ.

  2. If you're choosing to live in the downtown of any city then you need to be prepared to deal with noises. There are many quieter zones that one could choose to live. Some accept the noise as a tradeoff of being in a downtown. I don't think that should prevent progress in the area.

  3. I THINK THAT ANYWHERE YOU GO NOW THEIRS NOISES AND ALOT OF OTHER THINGS GOING ON, PEOPLE NEED TO REALIZE THAT WE ARE IN 2010.IN MY OPINION RAHWAY IS ONE OF THE FEW TOWNS THAT ARE NICE AND HAVE POTENTIAL.LET BUSINESS PEOPLE WHO WANTS TO INVEST BECAUSE ITS ONLY A BETTER SOLUTION TO OVERCOME THESE TOUGH TIMES FOR EVERYONE.BUSINESS ARE ALWAYS GOOD BECAUSE OF JOBS, GREAT ATMOSPHERE, AND FOR THE TOWN OF RAHWAY.

  4. I passed by the establishment after it opened and I must say it is AMAZING!! Has a total New York Vibe, feels like New York has invaded Rahway.
