A new extended stay hotel is taking shape off Routes 1 and 9, with signage recently going up for the Home2 Suites by Hilton.
The four-story, 93-unit project broke ground about 16 months ago but has been in the works for years. It’s been more than four years since the Planning Board gave approval for a Candlewood Suites, which later was changed to the Home2 Suites concept by Hilton. Almost a decade ago, a single-story Deluxe Inn on the site was demolished originally to make way for a Sleep Inn.

The site was acquired for $2.35 million in June 2008 and in December 2011, property records seem to indicate the ownership was shifted into an LLC by the name of Family Hospitality.
The combined properties has been generating a combined proeprty tax bill of about $12,535 based on a total assessment of the land of $214,600. The 2.7-acre property eventually will be assessed for building improvements as well, which would boost the property tax bill.
