Just Plain Dave’s American grill, which this month moved into the old Valentina’s space on St. Georges Avenue, will host a grand opening on Dec. 8.

After almost eight years in Clark, Just Plain Dave’s relocated to the former Italian restaurant space, with a soft opening earlier this month. Valentina’s closed earlier this year. The 2,200-square-foot restaurant is almost twice the space that Dave’s occupied in its previous Westfield Avenue location. The new site seats about 65.

Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, Just Plain Dave’s is a BYO, “known for good, quality, homestyle food,” owner Dave Billings said. “We’re surprising — you don’t expect to get what you get.”

A Colonia native, Billings was a retail broker for 11 years before becoming a manager at the adjacent Butch Kowal’s Tavern for several years to learn the business. He describes the restaurant as a little like himself: “A little whimsical, a little eccentric but I have a passion for feeding people, that’s what I Iike to do.”
