Lala’s Attic, a boutique thrift store and more, opened in March, bringing a slice of “Storage Wars” to Rahway.
The shop at 1004 St. Georges Ave., offers a variety of women’s and men’s clothing and shoes, assorted knick-knacks and home furnishings and accessories. Lala’s also buys and sells DVDs and video games and electronics. In addition to buying second-hand-items, most of their inventory comes from weekly storage auctions and big box liquidation auctions, as well as estate sales.
Husband and wife team Roger Perez and Ines Vaca-Perez recently moved to Rahway from Queens. The inspiration behind the store was their son, Bryan, who helped build the business from home over the past two years. He recently was deployed to Africa with the Army National Guard. It was Bryan who came up with the concept, telling his dad that he shouldn’t have to go to the mall for a simple task like picking up a new shirt.
Ines has more than two decades of experience in retail, primarily with Coach, and Roger has been a longtime entrepreneur in mobile phone franchises. They started out on social media and at flea markets before opening their first location in Rahway this past spring. The store’s name is an homage to their grandmothers, both of whom were nicknamed Lala.
Lala’s Attic also sells its items on eBay and Amazon and they plan to unveil several initiatives on YouTube. Roger stresses that all items sold at the store are priced at a fraction of retail and “you’ll always find something different every week.”
Lala’s is nestled in the rear of the Dollar Tree Shopping Plaza on St. Georges Avenue, alongside Classic Comics and Plum Tomato, Lala’s is only a 12-minute walk from downtown Rahway, straight down West Milton Avenue from the Rahway Train Station.
