Ming’s Luncheonette will close after 32 years at its West Grand Avenue location as owner Ming Kwong plans to retire. “He is 100% healthy however, after much thought, due to COVID risks and him working for so long he felt it was the right time to officially close the store,” according to a Facebook post by the Kwong family on Monday.
Last year, Ming’s was among the 50 best hole-in-the-wall restaurants according to The Star-Ledger‘s Peter Genovese.
“Our family is so blessed to have befriended so many people who have come to Ming’s throughout the years. We feel super loved to have experienced all the amazing people who walked through that door and can’t thank the Rahway Community enough for all the love and support over the last 32 years. We love and appreciate you all for everything!”
“It’s truly bittersweet for all of us and we’ll miss the culture and the vibe that you all helped shaped for Ming’s.”
“Ming’s wouldn’t be Ming’s without you all!”
In a Facebook post on June 26, Just Plain Dave’s announced it will take over kitchen operations next month at the new Flynn’s on Main Street. “These past few months have been an extremely strange and difficult time for all small businesses. As we look to the future, we recognize that creative solutions will be needed to survive.”
After 15 years as Flynn’s Irish Pub, the bar and restaurant closed in early 2014 to rebrand as Meatballs & Brews, but now plans a return to its Irish roots, continuing under the same ownership.
The East Cherry Street location of Just Plain Dave’s will be open for breakfast and lunch through the end of July. They expect to share more information about hours and pictures of the new space in the coming weeks.
