Other developers presented with Savoy project

The administration is working with undisclosed developers in an attempt to have The Savoy property purchased from Wachovia bank, according to City Administrator and Redevelopment Director Peter Pelissier.

Mayor James Kennedy is working with the bank and Dornoch about a possible purchase of the Main Street property, Pelissier said during a Redevelopment Agency meeting earlier this month. While it may not look like anything is going on at the site, he added, they’re “aggressively working with developers to move forward.”

The city plans to repair the sidewalk and move the fence back along the Main Street frontage of The Savoy, according to Pelissier. Whoever ends up doing the project will reimburse the city for the sidewalk work, he added.

Homes By Maplewood apparently has an updated Web site which no longer now lists The Savoy as “Coming Soon” but no longer The Lofts as it once did on our Local Links to the right, the leased apartments at the corner of Irving and East Cherry streets. It still mentions P&F Management’s “urban division is currently developing residential communities,” in among other places, Rahway.

  1. Actually if you click on "coming soon" on the Maplewood website the Savoy is listed there. Either way Dornoch has never built one thing all they do is sell stuff that was previously built by Kara homes. They cover up moldy plywood and the sell to unknowing cousumers , I guess they fell they have the right to lie and steal from people. Well hope someone {maybe even an actual builder} will come in and build. Guess not all of Fishmans unethical behavior has paid off.

  2. Anon, despite your anonymity, I appreciate the correction, which I've noted in the original post [strikethrough = original post; italics = revised/corrected copy].Poor job on my part navigating their updated site. My apologies. Thanks again!

  3. One other note: The Coming Soon section of their site lists The Savoy as units "from the high 200's."Banners that used to grace The Savoy site a few years ago, circa summer 2008, indicated units starting from $315k.

  4. I wonder how realistic it is to think that anyone is going to be able to build there now. When there are so many units available, both rentals and condos, it doesn't seem viable.Smarter to accept the mistake, turn the space into a park, and wait for demand to turn around.

  5. I like the park idea. Create a small pond, add some benches and a couple trees. Rahway has a great park but its too far from downtown. Something small downtown would be nice.
