Park approved for Essex Street

The City Council approved a $1.05-million bond ordinance Monday night for park improvements near Riverwalk along Essex Street.

That makes for a good lead-in to our new poll question this month (to the right): How important is green/open space in your vision of downtown Rahway?
— Fewer condos, more parks.
— We don’t need Central Park, but balance new development with open space.
— If it doesn’t help pay taxes, don’t bother with it.

  1. yea like we need more park space downtown for the gangs and to get mugged, lol. also more money going into the pockets of the politcal sponges. to bad the gov is not in on it to stiff us more with his great plan to get us out of hole, there all a-holes and should be impeached and put in jail.lol bunch of conartists

  2. Our friends in Highland Park are having some trouble with their downtown renaissance: Developer downsizes housing projectIt looks like Dornoch decided to scale things down now that housing prices aren’t increasing 20% year over year anymore, and you can’t get a mortgage by just fogging a mirror. Redevelopment is all well and good as long as the money is easy. I can’t wait for Skyview spec units to come on the listings in June or whenever the building is done and watch them race to the bottom. Or how about the short sales advertised for Riverwalk?Bottom line is, everyone got greedy and thought they were Donald Friggin Trump just for buying real estate. Rahway might be nice in 10 years, not 2 or 3. The real estate game is over. Watch for prices of just about everything else to increase, but for RE to stagnate.

  3. Does anyone know how all the motels/hotels stay in business on rt. 1&9? I have been wondering this for a while. It makes our area look so cheap and trashy. Before we start planting trees how about making Cherry Street look less like a deserted alley from a 1970’s murder mystery. Downtown looks like a dump. I am probably going to move soon. Rahway is going nowhere.

  4. Since Mark’s post concerned open space, Rahway is pretty fortunate to have plenty of parks like Greenfield, Rahway Park Milton Lake, and the playgrounds around town. But I wonder if the people clamoring for open space ever use the parks. Other than Rahway Park on a weekend, I rarely see a soul in any of the other parks. Perhaps people are too addicted to their Playstations and computers to get out and enjoy the fresh air.

  5. I wish I were able to enjoy the parks on weekdays, but I’m chained to my desk Monday through Friday …Parents need to get their kids outside more and away from the TV/Playstation.I think the fact that Rahway has so much park space makes the town more attractive to prospective new residents, many who will be looking for a town to raise a family in.
