Patria and D’Orsi’s Bakery were the big winners at The Taste of Rahway on Friday night, winning three categories each. The winners in each category were as follows (in Rahway, unless otherwise noted):
- Best entree: Dominic’s Italian Restaurants (Avenel)
- Best pulled pork: Surrender Cafe (Woodbridge)
- Best chicken dish: Cubanu, stuffed chicken (as a judge in this category, I can attest; and Village Bistro‘s stuffed chicken was a close second)
- Best barbeque: El Quincho
- Best seafood: Patria, ceviche
- Best pasta: Ill Amici, tortellini in cheese sauce (Linden)
- Best ethnic dish: Surrender-Latin and American Cafe, empanadas (Woodbridge)
- Best side dish or salad: D’Orsi’s Bakery, spinach quiche (Port Reading)
- Best dessert: D’Orsi’s Bakery, lemon roll (Port Reading)
- Best frozen dessert: Piece of Cake (the graham cracker and the macadamia vanilla gelato, OMG you must)
- Best metro area bakery: D’Orsi’s Bakery (Port Reading)
- Best table presentation: Patria
- Taster’s Choice (best in show): Patria, ceviche
