Pizza poll results

It looks like the new kid in town has made a good impression when it comes to the RahwayRising.com pizza poll voters.

It wasn’t quite the 189 votes that were cast in 2016 but still a pretty respectable turnout of 145 ballots cast. Polls closed on Saturday after opening last month.

Results were pretty strong that there are two clear favorites this year among Rahway’s pizza joints:

  1. Il Forno a Legna — 37 percent (54/145 votes)
  2. Nancy’s Towne House — 30 percent (44/145)
  3. Plum Tomato — 12 percent (17/145)
  4. Tony’s Pizza Cafe — 10 percent (15/145)
  5. Michelino’s Pizza — 5 percent (7/145)
  6. Nunzio’s II — 2 percent (3/145)
  7. Brooklyn Pizza — 1.38 percent (2/145)
  8. KC’s Pizzeria — 1.38 percent (2/145)
  9. Other — 0.69 percent (1/145)

nancysLongtime favorite Nancy’s Towne House took an early lead out of the gate when the poll opened last month but it looks like the new kid on the block has made an impression since opening last year. Nancy’s had won our last poll in 2017 and in the previous year won by a substantial margin, nearly garnering a majority of the votes. With the exception of 2018 when we didn’t have a poll, Nancy’s had won four years in a row and six out of the last seven.

Il Forno a Legna from corner.July2018But this year, it was Il Forno a Legna that garnered 37 percent of the votes to take the top spot, outpolling Nancy’s Towne House by 10 votes, which took about a third of the ballots. They were the clear top two in this year’s poll, outdistancing the rest of the field by combining to grab two-thirds of the 145 votes overall.

The only years that Nancy’s has not won the pizza poll was 2013, when Nunzio’s II on West Grand Avenue, snagged the win, and 2009 when the Rahway Pizza, which used to be at the corner of St. Georges Avenue and Maple Street, won in the just the second year of the poll. Michelino’s also tied Nancy’s in 2008 in the inaugural poll.

I’m curious what the lone vote was for “Other,” so feel free to share in the comments or share what you like about which pizza joint you voted for.
