Is there a better time than August for a sweet treat to beat the heat?

That could mean a lot more than ice cream. And we’ll find out with this month’s reader poll. The August poll, sponsored by RahwayIsHappening.com (the Rahway Special Improvement District), asks:

Here’s a brief look at the seven options in this month’s poll.

 

There’s the traditional ice cream that you can find at Dairy Queen or Rahway Creamery, and Piece of Cake. There’s also gelato (the Italian word for ice cream, which has a “higher proportion of milk and lower proportion of cream and eggs”) from the newest game in town, Wholly Cow, which recently cut the ribbon on its spaces within The Mint building on Monroe Street. And another summertime classic, Rita’s of Rahway and its water ice and custard.

Melao Cafe and Creamery, which has usually fared well in the Favorite Coffee polls, is in the mix with its rolled ice cream. Of course, a “sweet treat to beat the summer heat” doesn’t even have to be solid, as in the case of frozen mint lemonade found at Madina Halal Platter.

Remember, you’ve got most all of August to cast your vote but you can only choose one — and the poll limits you to one vote per IP address. Look for results to be posted before the Labor Day weekend.
