It wasn’t overwhelming but there was a clear winner in the July reader poll. Sponsored by the Rahway Special Improvement District (SID), the monthly poll of RahwayRising reader asked:
What’s your favorite bar in Rahway?
- The Waiting Room — 25% (14/56 votes)
- The Irving Inn Social — 18% (10/56)
- Firehouse Eatery & Pub — 11% (6/56)
- [TIE] Butch Kowal’s — 9% (5/56)
- Nancy’s Towne House — 9% (5/56)
- [TIE] Flynn’s Pub House — 7% (4/56)
- The Lounge at Watt Hotel — 7% (4/56)
- Wet Ticket Brewing — 7% (4/56)
- Rocky’s Bar & Grill — 5% (3/56)
- CubaNu — 2% (1 /56)
Last year’s favorite bar poll ended in a tie, so technically, The Waiting Room retains the crown that it shared with Butch Kowal’s in 2021. Interestingly enough, last year there were 55 votes cast in the same poll, compared with a nearly identical 56 votes cast this year. The East Cherry Street watering hole garnered a solid quarter of the overall total, ahead of The Irving Inn Social and St. Georges Avenue staple Firehouse Eatery & Pub.
After the top there, there was a big of a logjam, with a tie between Butch Kowal’s and Nancy’s Towne House, with 9% each, a mere vote ahead of a three-way tie among Flynn’s Pub House, The Lounge at Watt Hotel, and Wet Ticket Brewing, each a single vote behind at 7%.
Wrapping up the top 10 with some support were Rocky’s Bar & Grill on West Grand Avenue at 5% and another downtown spot, CubaNu, with 2%. There were a few other options included in the original poll that did not garner any votes. Let us know some reasons why you voted the way you did in the comments below.
