This month’s poll, sponsored by RahwayIsHappening.com (Rahway Special Improvement District), garnered quite a bit of attention with a total of 339 votes cast, which is probably a new, all-time high.
Since it’s National Pizza Month, the monthly reader poll for October was:
What’s your favorite pizza in Rahway?
- Michelino’s — 43% (147/339 votes)
- Nancy’s Towne House — 15.9% (54/339)
- Il Forno a Legna — 15.3% (52/339)
- Plum Tomato — 10% (35/339)
- Jersey Boys Kitchen — 7% (24/339)
- Tony’s Pizza Cafe — 5% (18/339)
- Brooklyn Pizza — 2% (7/339)
- [TIE] Nunzio’s II — 0.3% (1/339)
- Las Pinatas — 0.3% (1/339)
You have to go back to 2013 to find a winner of our pizza poll that wasn’t Nancy’s or Il Forno a Legna, when Nunzio’s II pulled off the surprise. Michelino’s did share the first-ever poll title in 2008, tying with Nancy’s. Michelino’s had quite an improvement over their 6th-place finish in the 2021 poll.
Nancy’s, last year’s winner, and Il Forno a Legna were neck and neck – separated by just two votes – behind Michelino’s, followed by Plum Tomato, which were the only ones to secure 10% of the vote. Jersey Boys Kitchen had a respectable 5th-place finish in its first poll appearance. It’s located in the former Woodbridge Road space of KC’s Pizzeria.
In 6th place was Tony’s Pizza Cafe, followed by Brooklyn Pizza, and getting a modicum of support with one vote a piece were Nunzio’s II and Las Pinatas.
Now Michelino’s can claim its second title, its first as the sole winner, and the only other joint with two titles to its name. Nancy’s has won 8 of the 12 favorite pizza polls since we started doing them in 2008.
- 2022: Michelino’s, 44 percent
- 2021: Nancy’s Towne House, 34 percent
- 2019: Il Forno a Legna, 37 percent
- 2017: Nancy’s Towne House, 36 percent
- 2016: Nancy’s Towne House, 47 percent
- 2015: Nancy’s Towne House, 35 percent
- 2014: Nancy’s Towne House, 50 percent
- 2013: Nunzio’s II, 40 percent
- 2012: Nancy’s Towne House, 31 percent
- 2011: Nancy’s Towne House, 26 percent
- 2009: Rahway Pizza, 34 percent
- 2008: Michelino’s/Nancy’s Towne House (tie), 27 percent
On occasion, we took some years off from the pizza poll (2020, 2018, 2010).
