There may have only been a few dozen votes cast — not hundreds like in some polls see — but it has to be one of the closest votes in the history of the polls on the site.

There was a tie at the top but there wasn’t much room separating four different options at the top of the final results — all but one vote among the quartet. Here are results of the January reader poll, sponsored by RahwayIsHappening.com (Rahway Special Improvement District):
What was your favorite SID event of 2023?
- [TIE] Soup Stroll — 19% (10/54 votes)
- Rahway’s Taste of Spring — 19% (10/54)
- [TIE] Mayor’s Summer Concert Series — 17% (9/54)
- Cherry Street Soire en Blanc — 17% (9/54)
- Rahway Arts Fest — 9% (5/54)
- Tree Lighting/Winter Wonderland — 6% (3/54)
- [TIE] Small Business Weekend Events/Cherry Street Holiday Market — 4% (2/54)
- Other – 4% (2/54)
- [TIE] What’s the Word: Poetry Slam — 2% (1/54)
- Music Festival for Restaurants — 2% (1/54)
- Live at the Paseo: Friday Night Music Series – 2% (1/54)
- Paint Rahway Pink – 2% (1/54)
The Soup Stroll tied with Rahway’s Taste of Spring for the top spot but Cherry Street Soire en Blanc and the Mayor’s Summer Concert Series were hot on their tail, just one vote behind, tied for third place.
It only took about 9 to 10 votes to get to that level, so those four events accounted for 70 percent of the 54 overall votes. Then there was a smattering of support with Rahway Arts Fest coming in at No. 5, with 5 votes, followed closely by the Winter Wonderland/Tree Lighting, with 3 votes to register at No. 6.
After that, it only took a few votes to register in the top dozen so there were a lot of ties, including 2 votes (4 percent) for Other — share your opinions in the comments to let us know which events those were.
A new month will be upon us shortly so keep an eye out for the February reader poll coming up soon.
