Soup may not be as popular as, say, pizza (which was our last reader poll) but there’s so many different types, it’s hard to compare them. But we still tried with the latest reader poll, and the results are in.

- Beana’s Para Siempre — 14% (7/50)
- Wheelie Good Pierogi — 8% (4/50)
- [TIE] Flynn’s Pub House — 6% (3/50)
- The Waiting Room — 6% (3/50)
- Other — 4% (2/50)
- [TIE] Melao Cafe & Creamery — 2% (1/50)
- The Irving Inn Social — 2% (1/50)
- Olivia’s Catering and Dining — 2% (1/50)
- Sabor Peruano — 2% (1/50)
* Participated in the Rahway Soup Stroll in January
Il Forno a Legna, which finished 2nd in the favorite pizza poll, garnered a solid 38% of the overall votes (19 of 50) to take 1st place. The Main Street eatery was among 20 that participated in the Rahway Soup Stroll (it offered up Pasta Fagioli during the event, which took place each weekend in January).
It was a solid lead over the 2nd and 3rd place finishers, Monchy’s on West Main Street, which had a Colombian chicken soup (“Ajiaco”) during the soup stroll, with 16%, and Beana’s Para Siempre on St. Georges Avenue, which offered up a “rip roaring crab and corn cream soup,” just one vote behind with 14%. .Wheelie Good Pierogi* on Irving Street grabbbed 8% (4/50) to edge out Flynn’s Pub House which tied The Waiting Room to round out the top 5, with 6% (3/50).
There were a total of 50 votes cast in the soup poll, a bit of a drop-off from the 115 that were cast in the Favorite Pizza Poll last month, which is understanble, because hey, soup probably just isn’t as sexy as pizza. Only 10 of the 24 options presented in the poll received at least one vote, in addition to “Other,” which saw some votes.
“Other” received garnered 4% (2 votes) of the total. I’d love to hear which place that might be; maybe Bianca’s Deli, or another place that I may have missed among the 24 choices?
