It wasn’t that long ago (OK, maybe it was a long time ago if you consider 16 years a long time) that there were very few options in downtown Rahway to grab a coffee and hang out.

Oh sure, you could grab a coffee and jump on the train. There just wasn’t much in the way of options where you order a coffee and read a book, scroll the Internet, or what you have.

The monthly reader poll for March, sponsored by RahwayIsHappening.com, the Rahway Special Improvement District (SID), has roots in one of the early polls on RahwayRising.com:

It’s pretty wild that most all of these places can be found within a few blocks of each other.

In the past few years, the poll has usually been a pretty tight race between Melao Coffee and Creamery and The Coffee Box when the polls were based on specific specialty drinks or included most anywhere that serves coffee.  Last year, Melao took the crown by a narrow margin of about 4 percentage points, with almost 250 votes cast overall. This year’s poll also welcomes a newcomer. Wholly Cow debuted in last summer’s poll for Favorite Sweet Treat.

You’ll have more than three weeks to cast your ballot. Remember, you can only vote for one, and the poll limits votes to per IP address. The final results will be posted before the end of March.
