It’s been awhile since we asked and since there’s been some turnover in recent years, it’s as good a time as any to bring back the used-to-be-annual pizza poll.
Poll results have varied over the years, some years garnering almost 200 votes, other years closer to 100 votes. There’s been one pretty clear favorite in all the years of the pizza poll but it’s always among the more popular and fun posts on the site.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost two years since our last pizza poll, when Nancy’s Towne House on Main Street downtown outdistanced Tony’s Pizza Cafe on Broadway by 36 percent to 20 percent. And since our last poll, we have a new contender among the 10 or pizzerias, with Il Forno a Legna (which translates literally to “The Wood Oven” in Italian) across the street from Nancy’s Towne House, so downtown Rahway has its own pizza corner of sorts.
Il Forno a Legna renovated the space occupied for many years by Niece’s Pieces at the corner of Main and Lewis streets, opening in September.
Try not to take it too seriously, i.e., keep it to one vote per person, no ballot-stuffing, or other silliness. The poll will be open for about four weeks, closing June 22 at midnight. That should give you enough time to do some sampling.
Feel free to share your favorites or tell us about what you like about particular pizza places in the comments below. Plum Tomato often is mentioned for its “Grandma Pie” and for those who like thin crust, it’s tough to find a better joint than Nancy’s Towne House (to say nothing of the great retro ambiance). And maybe it’s the vibe or decor that you appreciate in your vote.
