Seeking a second four-year term, Ray Giacobbe, Jr. ran with two incumbents, Joanna Miles and Jeremy Mojica, and Jeff Brooks, who was appointed to the seat early this year after the resignation of James Baker, who was elected to the county Board of Commissioners.

Local results from the city clerk’s office can be found here (CORRECTED LINK) and provide a breakdown by district and ward but do not include mail-in ballots. Unofficial results, which are expected to be certified on November 21, can be viewed on the county clerk’s site here:

Mayor

Raymond Giacobbe, Jr. – 6,125

City Council at-large (3)

  1. Jeremy Mojica — 5,516
  2. Joanna Miles — 5,403
  3. Jeff Brooks — 5,282
  4. Patrick Cassio — 1,941
  5. David Sypher — 1,781

1st Ward – unexpired term (until 2024)

Al Parker — 984

Also running unopposed for the remaining two years as the 1st Ward representative was Al Parker. He was appointed to the seat in September after Rodney Farrar resigned in August, with two years remaining in his term. City Council is made up of nine members: three At-Large seats and six ward representatives, which are up in alternating years. The six ward seats will be up in 2024 (a presidential election year).

Three seats on the Board of Education also were unopposed:

Board of Education (3)

  1. Laura Giacobbe — 5,354
  2. Joe Toma — 4,565
  3. Timothy Antisz — 4,507

7th Congressional District, Rahway results

Tom Malinowski — 3,330
Tom Kean, Jr. — 1,620

The congressional district, of course, includes much more than Rahway, which for many years was in the 10th Congressional District, a safe Democratic district. In restricting after the 2020 Census, Rahway was moved into the 7th District, which is probably the most competitive district in the state and among the most competitive nationwide.

Giacobbe is a former 6th Ward councilman, appointed interim mayor in 2018 following the resignation of former Mayor Samson Steinman. He won election later that year to his first full four-year term.
