Cannapi LLC has filed an application seeking approval for preliminary and final major site plan and conditional use (Application 1/24) at 293 St. Georges Ave. (Block 7, Lot 4), the site of the former Galaxy Diner. It’s the only application listed on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting, which begins at 7 p.m.
Last week, City Council awarded Rahway’s first retail cannabis license to Plantabis Dispensary on Routes 1/9. That came a year after the governing body endorsed its application to the state Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC). In July, the Planning Board approved a minor site plan and conditional use application for Plantabis at a former White Castle site, which also previously was a seafood restaurant.
City Council approved a resolution endorsing Cannapi’s state application in May. The governing body previously endorsed a manufacturing and cultivation license at the former Galaxy Diner site.
Cannapi LLC incorporated on Feb. 28, 2022 with an Iselin address and filed an application for a license (Applicant 2022-01) to the CRC. According to a deed filed with the Union County Clerk, the former Galaxy Diner property changed hands in May for $1.7 million going from 293 St. Georges Avenue LLC (c/o George Thomas, who lists the same address as the Galloping Hill Inn in Union) to Reva Rahway, LLC, which lists a Brockton, Mass. address, which is the same as that of Cannapi, a recreational dispensary in Brockton, Mass. It is not the same, it just happens to have the same name, as the apartment building named Reva Rahway on Main Street., which is owned by 1255 Main St. Urban Renewal, LLC.
The property is assessed for $491,700 (including $295,000 for land and $786,700 for improvements), generating a property tax bill of about $56,257.
