City Council awarded one of the city’s two retail cannabis licenses to a dispensary that will operate out of a former fast food and seafood restaurant on Route 1.
The Planning Board paved the way for a former fast food restaurant to become the city’s first retail cannabis dispensary – including a drive-through for pickup only.
In a nearly unanimous vote, City Council approved changes to regulations governing retail dispensaries as residents near a potential cannabis retail location raised concerns primarily about traffic.
The city’s retail cannabis regulations are up for more changes in an an effort to make the approval process less restrictive, which would have required variances for most properties.
Legislation introduced by City Council last month would tweak regulations overseeing cannabis licenses, specifically making retail cannabis operations a conditional use – which requires Planning Board approval – within the zones where it’s allowed.
