The Planning Board unanimously approved a 45-unit, five-story apartment complex that will remake the north side of East Cherry Street, replacing three buildings of no more than three stories.
One East Cherry Street building would be demolished to pave the way for a pedestrian promenade connecting Lewis Street but another would be renovated and added onto under a concept plan presented to the Redevelopment Agency last week.
A revised concept plan for several East Cherry Street properties now features 44 units in a new five-story building. The new plan also now includes parking spaces on the ground floor along with a smaller retail space.
Four properties once owned by the defunct developer, Dornoch, have been snapped up by another developer who has become active with projects in downtown Rahway.
