Demolition of the vacant St. Mark’s Church on Hamilton Street restarted recently, with much of the church building razed this week. The adjacent rectory building still remained as of Tuesday.
The vacant St. Mark’s Church property and five adjacent lots will be studied for potential redevelopment.

St. Mark’s Church is in the process of being demolished in preparation for the sale of the Hamilton Street property by the Archdiocese of Newark.
St. Mark’s Church on Hamilton Street finally met the wrecking ball on Wednesday, eight years after the parish merged with nearby St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church.
More than five years after the original concept of an affordable housing development geared toward artists was presented to the Redevelopment Agency, The Willows at Rahway, will host its grand opening with a ribbon cutting on May 1.
Applications began being accepted last week for The Willows at Rahway, a 58-unit affordable housing complex with a preference for artists, with occupancy aimed for the spring.
