Poll results: What’s your favorite pizza place?

If our last poll is any indication, there are two pretty clear favorites among Rahway pizza parlors, a few more that get some support among readers, followed by a smattering of others around town.

Poll: Your favorite pizza place

We’ve asked this poll question before but readers seem to have a lot of fun with it, so consider it our fourth annual (completely unscientific and just for fun) Pizza Poll. Besides, it’ll give us something to talk about during these slower summer months while we’re on vacation.

The first three polls had left out a few options but I think most every option is included this time around:

What’s your favorite place for pizza in Rahway?
Brooklyn Pizza
Buona Pizza
Gino’s
KC’s Pizzeria
Michelino’s
Nunzio’s II
Nancy’s Towne House
Papa Vito
Rahway Pizza
Subworks
Ted’s Pizzeria
Tony’s
Other

Be sure to click one of the options on the right-hand side of our home page. If you’re reading via an email, click on the link to land on the main Rahway Rising page and vote in the poll.

Poll: What’s your favorite place for pizza?

We’ve been so focused on news and other blog items, it’s been awhile since we rolled out a poll, so here’s an oldie but a goodie to nosh on while I put together the next few posts:

What’s your favorite place for pizza in Rahway?
Brooklyn Pizza
Gino’s
KC’s Pizzeria
Michelino’s
Nunzio’s II
Nancy’s Towne House
Papa Vito
Rahway Pizza
Subworks
Ted’s Pizzeria
Tony’s
Other

I’d call it the annual Rahway Rising pizza poll but it seems we missed out in 2010. Check out our previous poll results on pizza from 2009 and 2008. Cast your vote in the poll along the right side of the main page. As always, a reminder that the poll isn’t scientific in the least, and can be easily manipulated by anyone with too much time on their hands, so please, only one vote a piece.

I came across this story in The Brooklyn Paper last month — “Fifth Avenue gets trash cans straight out of ‘The Jetsons'” — and thought it was interesting. The local Business Improvement District (BID) installed six solar-powered, self-compacting trash cans. They cost $3,000 but hold three to five times as much trash thanks to the built-in compactor that’s activated by internal sensors when trash piles up. But, there is some evidence that similar devices didn’t work when they tried it in Philadelphia last year.

Chess Mates opens on Irving Street

Excuse the recent hiatus, we’ll catch up on a few things this week.

Several new stores opened downtown within the last few months, among the more prominent ones is Chess Mates, the second retail tenant in the Park Square development on Irving Street.

The grand opening originally was scheduled in March but was postponed and finally opened in mid-June. Chess Mates occupies the second retail space in Park Square, next to Eyes On You, and has a three-year lease for about 1,000 square feet.

Something else to catch up on: The Star-Ledger’s Munchmobile is on a pizza run again this summer and it stopped by Rahway a while ago, offering its impressions of Brooklyn Pizza. The Race Street pizzeria got a C+ with comments ranging from “perfect amount of garlic and cheese” to “average” and “soggy.” The sauce, crust and sausage “still need work” but they endorsed the white pizza.

Pizza and coffee

Some lighter fare today for your weekend reading. We talk about pizza aplenty here; maybe it’s rubbing off on others. At the risk of turning this into a pizza blog, there’s been a couple of pizza-related items in the past month.

Green building plan meeting next week

A special joint Planning Board and Environmental Commission meeting will be Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room of the Public Library, 2 City Hall Plaza.

The city aims to adopt a new chapter of its master plan, Green Building and Environmental Sustainability Plan, and seeks questions, feedback and involvement. The city has been promoting “green building practices in addition to conducting an energy audit of all its public buildings.”

The Star-Ledger‘s Munchmobile Pizza Patrol took another swing through Union County recently. Brooklyn Pizza on Race Street was among the pizzerias to which they paid a visit, however, they didn’t sound too impressed, according to this report posted last week:

“‘Best pizza in New Jersey,’ proclaims Brooklyn Pizza. Maybe it should start with trying to be the best pizza in Rahway. The crust should return to crust school, and the cheese tasted low-grade. The white pie is instantly forgettable.”

Agree? Disagree? Brooklyn Pizza was a newcomer at the time of our Best Pizza poll almost a year ago, but managed a decent, middle-of-the-pack finish.

Pizza Patrol peruses pies in Rahway

Nothing about foreclosures or DEP brownfield sites today, just a quick fun Friday post.

The Star-Ledger Munchmobile’s Pizza Patrol recently visited Rahway, among other Union County sites. Of course, Nancy’s Townehouse got raves for its thin crust, as well as their sausage pie. Meanwhile, across town at Papa Vito, they weren’t thrilled with the plain slice, ranking it among the bottom five, but loved the lasagna slice.

It reminded me of our semi-annual/semi-random pizza poll. Take a look at our results from February and the year before that, when we were just getting started.
