A developer familiar to Rahway has purchased the former St. Mark’s church property and is expected to bring forth a proposal for the site early this year.
More than a dozen properties considered underutilized were identified in the downtown strategic plan as “opportunity sites.” Some of the sites already have proposed concepts or in use another way while the plan suggested alternative development options” for others.
Redevelopment of the former St. Mark’s Church hasn’t progressed and there may be some question whether proposed townhomes could still work for the site.

The Planning Board accepted a draft master plan re-examination — the first comprehensive one in 20 years — identifying potential areas of the city for future redevelopment and presenting recommendations.
The Redevelopment Agency awarded a contract for the appraisal of nine different lots, including six properties in and around the former St. Mark’s Church that recently were studied for redevelopment.
