Luciano’s received three stars in a review featured in Friday’s Star-Ledger, and had a few interesting things to say about Rahway as well: “If you haven’t found yourself in Rahway recently, you’ll be surprised by the ever-increasing reasons to go. This is a city on a quest to become a vibrant community, full of urban artists and commuters, with all the energy that entails. It stands to reason, then, that the restaurant scene would enjoy an invigorating renaissance as well.”
Owner Michael Merlis is also quoted: “Merlis expects even more people to re-discover the town and sit at one of the tables that not so recently would have been in a vacant lot. ‘They can’t believe they’re in Rahway.'” Hmm, where have I heard that before?

Yes, every once in a while, I too can’t believe I am in Rahway… until I walk down West Cherry St. and see the neighbor with the beer can collection in his yard or walk down Adams St. where across from a perfectly lovely and new Colonial are two boarded up houses straight out of Buffalo (or Ironbound Newark if you prefer a more local reference). If this were still 2004, developers would be clarmoring to buy those eye-sores, knock ’em down, and build something new for all the people clamoring to get into Rahway. Before I am attacked for being too negative, the reason I see these things is because I am looking to invest in Rahway and make a home here. Sorry, I don’t have the money to buy three houses on the block and fix them up and I am not looking to buy into a neighborhood with vacant homes. Can’t wait to try Luciano’s though!
There was a time when St. George Ave was the nicer part of town. Now downtown seems to be more promising. What is going on with St. George Ave?????
Realist, you have to admit that although there are still things in Rahway that need attention, there have been lots of improvements that have occurred in the past couple years and in general things are headed in the right direction.Change happens slowly though. You can’t waive a magic wand and have everything be perfect.
Yes, I readily acknowledge that progress has been made. I maintain that calling this town the next Hoboken is a stretch. We might want to set our sites a little lower, perhaps we can mirror Maplewood’s success in becoming an attractive place to live. I will know we are there when Rahway has its own jitney to bring all locals to the train station like they have in Springfield, Maplewood, etc. It might be of interest to some of the commuters signing the petition protesting the rate hike at the parking facility.
Waaaaahhh, you’re never happy dude. A jitney? Fag.
Maplewood’s program has been very popular, and in fact was one of the first in the area. What started out as one jitney some 10 years ago now has 3 routes (last I remember), including one that goes to the other side of town — not unlike how St. Georges Avenue splits Rahway. As for anonymous, 9:55 — good one. Please note my sarcasm while you’re coming up with your next zinger, which I hope brings more to the table.
Wow what a man, something wrong with a jitney? You probably are still in love with your gas sucking Ford F-10. You know what they say…the bigger the truck the smaller the ….!!!!
